Eigen Ingenuity enabled Production Chemists for an asset in the North Sea to automate the production of a 15 page report on the chemical usage every month, saving around a week of time per month.
The data for the report, such as dosage rates and concentrations, had to be calculated based on flowrates and tank levels in the Process Historian.
Not surprisingly, the original workflow involved multiple Spreadsheets in order to do this. The result of these calculations had to be manually transferred into a Word document along with screenshots of trends and coloured KPIs. Previously, each report took about 1 week to create.
The Chemicals report tracks the dosage accuracy and usage of production chemicals. The aim of production chemical injection is broadly to provide protection from corrosion and to make the oil and water easier to process.
Chemical concentration cannot be continuously measured and so must be inferred from injected volumes and produced oil and water volumes. Some chemical injections, such as corrosion inhibitors, are a safety critical function that is part of the assets Barrier strategy and so it is essential that the injected concentrations remain at the right level.
