Moving beyond compliance to real-time barrier assurance

See how Eigen helped Lundin Energy (now AkerBP) to exceed the requirements of the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority by creating an online status panel with visual indications of barrier condition, non-conformances, impairments and drills and training so that users are immediately made aware of any unacceptable barrier integrity levels and can drill down into the root cause.
The system was configured using Eigen’s Safety Barrier Health Monitoring application which is built on a Knowledge Graph with interfaces to multiple different data sources and updates in realtime.
Barrier management in the operational phase requires ongoing monitoring and verification of barrier condition and performance.
Barrier condition and performance is assessed based on the master data from different systems including maintenance management, risk assessments, device alerts, sensor data and competency records among others.
The Home page of the application shows users the overall barrier integrity for the asset. Users are immediately aware of any unacceptable impairments and can drill down into the root cause within a few clicks.
Calculating the barrier status
Barrier Status is derived from live information across multiple different systems in real-time using a Knowledge Graph combined with interfaces to each system and customer specific business rules. The Barrier Status takes account of risk assessments & temporary measures and can be overridden by approved users.
Aggregating the status to Area, System, Performance Standard and Major Accident Hazard
The aggregation rules were defined by Lundin Technical specialists and DNV Barrier Management experts and configured in the Eigen’s Safety Barrier Health Monitoring application.

Using the relationships in the Knowledge Graph, barrier status can be aggregated up to asset level as well as system, area, performance standard and major accident hazard. This helps different people understand the status in a way that’s relevant to them.

Contextual Information in the Common Menu
Everything is interactive, and a click brings up contextual menus. The Common Menu shows all the source signals that are contributing to the current status as well as other related information from the Knowledge Graph. Barrier status can be manually amended by permitted users (an audit trail is kept).
