SECE maintenance backlog dramatically reduced
Safety Barrier Health Monitoring focused the planer’s attention to significantly reduce the SECE backlog
Challenge
The Safety and Environmental Critcal Element (SECE) backlog was reaching unmanageable levels for one operator, with the regulator issuing warnings.
Maintenance was planned, but, without a direct link to Major Accident Hazard (MAH) risk, its impact could not be measured – so the operator could not determine if its resources were directed appropriately.
Solution
Working in collaboration with the operator, Eigen designed and deployed an online Barrier Safety Panel solution, enabling the planners to easily identify links between activity, barrier status and cumulative MAH risk. This helped them better prioritise and demonstrate regulatory compliance.
Impact
The SECE backlog was reduced by 90% in three weeks, enabling the offshore team to move from firefighting to proactive planning. The tool enabled measurement of risk level, assuring regulators that the operator had an effective barrier management system, securing its licence to operate.
