Scale Squeeze – reservoir chemical monitoring dashboard
Realtime monitoring of reservoir chemical remaining life optimises chemical use and maximises plant capacity through effective scale management.
Production Technologists on Vår Energy’s Goliat FPSO created a dashboard to monitor remaining life of scale inhibiting chemicals injected into the reservoir.
The dashboard uses live production data to give the team realtime visibility of when then next scale inhibitor injection is required.
The Dashboard tracks the total water produced since the last injection for each well, and uses this to drive a KPI showing the remaining chemical life both as a visual indicator and as a calculated number of days remaining. Users configured a virtual timeseries using the Eigen Data Transformation Engine to totalise the online produced water rate since injection and subtract it from life of the chemical.
The Eigen Data Transformation Engine
The Eigen Analytics Framework has a built in Data Transformation Engine that lets you create virtual timeseries by applying mathematical or logical transformations to the source data.
This can be anything from a simple units conversion (For example, if you are measuring a pressure in ‘barg’ but want to plot it in ‘psig’ then you need to multiply it by 14.5) to If..Then statements and Totalisers over irregular calendar periods. These virtual timeseries can be treated just the same as any other real timeseries (for example you can set limits & alerts or use as the basis for another virtual timeseries) but they are evaluated at runtime and do not need the values to be written back to a database.

The dashboard was built from the ground up by the users in Vår and is updated regularly. It primarily uses the KPI component which allows users to build up an interactive display of different visualisation components as well as text entry and hyperlinks.
The live source data comes from an OSI Pi historian.
