Re-engineering a production efficiency workflow and report results in considerable time savings
Knowing who’s offshore when you’re thousands of miles away onshore in a dynamic, high risk operating environment creates real challenges. Eigen’s solution for one operator enabled it to integrate existing data from multiple sources with some clever logic to create a single place to build one team and drive productivity.
The manual workflow consisted in updating data fields in Excel from the sources and performing calculations so that graphs and trends could be updated and copied over to the final report in Microsoft Word.
The existing process required the engineer to import data from the automation system and then copy-paste the oil production rates, and electric semi-submersible pump run-times for each day of the month, for each well. Then, using his own criteria, they needed to check or adjust the well’s potential, based on the latest well test.
At this point, the losses due to downtime were calculated by Excel formulae.
In order to generate the monthly report, the field engineer had to manually enter some downtime events and explain all losses so they could be totalised for each category in the final monthly report.

Note that each well occupied a set of columns in the Excel sheet (up to column HD) and each row represented a day of the month.
The main objective was to get rid of the massive Excel file containing data for all the wells and all year and eliminate the need to prime a new Excel file for each year. The file’s embedded calculations were getting more and more complex and the few engineers that understood how it worked were moving on to new roles.
The team set to the task of implementing the process as a centralised cloud-based Eigen Ingenuity report.
The first thing that the team identified was the possibility to pivot the table, with “days” on the X axis and production, MPP (Potential) and losses on the Y axis.
The input data for the report was read directly from the new cloud data lake, including downtime events eliminating this manual task.
Standard Ingenuity trending capabilities were configured to suit the requirements of the users at the well and field level.
Over time the report was customised to allow engineers to select each well from a drop-down selector and classify downtime events and to add ad-hoc comments at the well and facility level. No more scrolling left and right to find a well!
With a click of a button, the final report is generated and issued as a PDF via email, as a new web page and sent to the Eigen Ingenuity mobile app users.
The results are also exported to a database for compilation at company level.
The old Excel sheet for calculation of the production efficiency can now be put to rest, eliminating the risk of knowledge loss as well.
The new workflow is being considered by the company as the template for the standardisation of the production efficiency workflow across all operated fields globally.
