Connecting people on and offshore with live data
Integrating multiple data sources to build a single source of truth about offshore personnel, role, photo and contacts
Knowing who’s offshore when you’re thousands of miles away onshore in a dynamic, high risk operating environment creates real challenges. Eigen’s solution for one operator enabled it to integrate existing data from multiple sources with some clever logic to create a single place to build one team and drive productivity.

Problem: Onshore teams rarely meet their offshore colleagues, with shift patterns and rotations, it’s hard to build a sense of one team, impacting productivity and morale
With offshore teams changing out every two to three weeks and different shift patterns operating, it can be hard for onshore teams to know who to contact.
Data from DaWinci provides a list of who has been dropped at each offshore installation by helicopter, but not their role during their time offshore. Nor their phone number or a photo.
A high number of contractor staff at any one time, from multiple third parties, compounds the challenge since they sit beyond the operator’s own organisation.
Problems were compounded during COVID when individual whereabouts were even more safety critical than usual.
Solution: A custom-built tool accessing real-time data to integrate with rota lists and directories to forge closer links between onshore and offshore teams
Eigen worked with the operator to connect together real-time whereabouts data from DaWinci with rota lists that detailed roles and activity plans, and the active directory to provide photos and contact details.
We identified that not only were the data in multiple systems, but a high degree of informal know how needed to be systematised, e.g. nicknames that people were known by were often different from names in official records, duplicate names were handled in an ad hoc manner etc.
Over a few weeks, Eigen was able to build a POB Dashboard for the operator that for the first time enabled everyone onshore to see who was working offshore, with their contact details, for the first time.
Impact: Live visibility of who is offshore improves safety, activity planning, productivity and improves team cohesion
Being able to rely on a single data point at any one time – and then drill down to an individual team member, their role that rotation – is all now possible.
The single POB number is a defined component that is automatically pulled into a number of business reports, removing significant manual overhead. And POB snapshots are stored daily, meaning the onshore team can perform more robust activity planning, harnessing historical data and trends.
This tool became business-critical during the pandemic to ensure the health and safety of offshore teams, which had to continue operating when the rest of the world was locked down.
The POB dashboard is displayed on screens around the offshore facility and is available to everyone on the operator’s intranet.
The POB tool is a simple solution, but one the operator acknowledges it could not manage without today.
